Alternative Addiction Treatments and Recovery Options

There are a number non-12-Step recovery options available for people who want to stop drinking, stop taking drugs and take control of their lives. After 30 years as an addiction specialist, I focus on strategies that have proven to be the most effective, empowering and long lasting.

My strategies include a brief intervention in which I help you delve deeply into the details of your alcohol addiction or drug dependency. You can read more about this Recovery “Kick Start” Session below. In addition, I provide addiction support materials in a variety of modalities – in writing, audio and video, plus connections to any appropriate support groups that may be active in your region.

Addiction Alternatives Stem from Personal Experience

I find that most of my clients come to me after a long – and sometimes painful – search to find effective alcohol addiction therapy that addresses their individuality and does not require a lifetime commitment to AA meetings or suspension of rational thinking. I know what this quest to stop drinking is like because I have been there. The first phase of my adult life was spent in an “alcoholic” haze that cost me my profession and marriage.

The Alcoholics Anonymous program was clearly not for me. I looked for a non 12-Step alternative and found, indeed, there were options. As my own expertise in my new career as an addiction therapist progressed, I became a co-founder of two very successful addiction treatment alternatives that are today recommended by the National Institute of Health as part of its “Rethinking Drinking” approach.

I work with people in my private practice office in Los Angeles but most of my clients prefer the convenience of telephonic sessions. My approach appeals to rational thinking and taking personal responsibility for recovery from alcohol addiction or drug dependency. I invite you to read about these strategies and contact me directly to talk about how I may help you stop drinking, overcome drug addiction and take control of your life.

The Recovery “Kick-Start” Session

The flagship of my alternative addiction therapy is the Recovery “Kick-Start” Session. It is an hour in which you prepare to take command of your recovery. A bridge that connects your life with alcohol addiction to a life where alcohol and drugs no longer cause problems. We begin to traverse to sobriety or moderation together.

You don’t need to commit to a lifetime of meetings, yielding control of your life to a higher power, and jump through a series of one-size-fits-all hoops to earn the right to call yourself an “addict”. This behavior never addresses the behavioral structure behind your alcohol addiction or drug dependency.

This unique model for recovery is an effective, non 12-Step program that is
highly effective and offers a number of advantages including the following:

  • No disruption in the normal flow of your life. This is a single session.
  • No need to check in to a program for 30 days or 6 months.
  • No requirement to attend weekly or daily meetings.
  • No mandate to give up all of your social network. You may choose to
maintain your lifestyle and your friendships.

Take advantage of a process that relies on science, not faith to help you stop drinking and start living again.

With your new-found knowledge you will learn to harness the skills you already have to change the key behaviors that have made your alcohol addiction so hard to quit.

Learn the structure to your behavior, including the harmless habits you have that feed your Alcohol addiction. Identify where to make simple adjustments in your behavior that can make a significant difference in your ability to stop drinking or doing drugs.

No group or coaching pressure to stop drinking. Measure success on your own criteria, not a group’s. This is a one-time only strategy session. No lecture or counseling. You and I put our heads together and identify the steps you want to take in order to make meaningful changes to help you stop drinking or drug addiction.

Private, convenient telephone conversations. You don’t have to be near a big city. You don’t have to walk into an office. You can call from anywhere in the world. All you need is a phone and a place where you feel comfortable talking to me about your alcohol addiction or drug dependency.

A friendly, compassionate sounding board should you relapse – along with action steps that will get you back on track as soon as possible.
