Doctors don’t see addiction as a disease yet refer to AA

By HabitDoc • April 12th, 2010

According to recent statements by our new drug czar, most doctors don’t really see addiction as a disease.

It seems to me that for many years, people in the medical field didn’t want to treat addiction problems because of the lousy success rate. They found it easier to send them off to AA. I think was partly reputation (which is their lifeblood), partly because they just didn’t know what else to do with them.

Somebody else claims to know how to “cure” it, it was in the best interests not to examine AA too closely, let AA take the problem clients off their hands.
